crucial release finally delivered for real

no one believes me by now, but this is really it.  even if one has the wrong startup code in .bashrc, then trying to load the feisty meow launching code will give a set of working steps to reviving feisty meow for at least the duration of the current shell.  it even provides debugging directions and shows where the likely problem is.  whew.  a tiny fix that spanned two days, argh.
